Some diver experiences with trash on these islands:

Hello, I'm new to all this, so please excuse me, but I thought I'd share what I found to be very strange when I moved to St. Thomas 2 years ago. They DO NOT HAVE RECYCLING!!! No kidding. Not a green bucket in the place! There are various dumpsters (size of the back of a semi) that are placed on the side of the road around the island. They are the same spots and are replaced by new dumpsters every morning (I should know, I've lived by them at 2 different locations). You would not BELIEVE the things that people throw out! I am constantly "shopping" at the dumpster across the street and have some pretty amazing finds! Luckily most people will place "usable" items outside of the dumpsters. I DO take my recycling to the NEW recycling center and try to do my best to recycle other peoples "trash" into "treasure" Even if my boyfriend isn't that keen on me hauling stuff into our courtyard and eventually our house from the dump! I JUST LOVE TO DUMPSTER DIVE! It's like searching for buried treasure! Have Fun! -- Rio340
