Featured

At this stage I would like to keep the term "featured" for articles that provide a clear direction of what people can contribute. With the Wikistory I'm not sure yet myself in how far it would be different from stuff I write in my blog. Whereas articles such as Ten Katestraat, Amsterdam and Japan contain some patterns that can easily be copied to other articles about markets, cities and countries. guaka 17:33, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Image change

Maybe it would be good to establish a regular routine of changing "featured" pictures in this way: deleting the bottom one and adding a new one on top of the rest. --Sigurdas 12:48, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Layout and not only

I like the improvements of the look of the main page! But I think "why do you dumpster dive?" is not the same as "why we work on Trashwiki?". Maybe another page? Or somehow change project:Why We Work on Trashwiki a little bit? guaka 14:25, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

hey, what about a quote box at the front page which shows reasons why to dumpster. Those could be changed manually from time to time or even better: automatically on (every) page visit. --Kardan 12:30, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Since there was a need for the "News and Events" box, I made some major changes to the page, and I hope it will be improved by someone, 'cause the layout of it is not particularly happy right now. Best viewable with Mozilla Firefox and Safari, Google Chrome is allright, Opera almost allright, Internet Explorer - tragedy. --Sigurdas 01:00, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Meinhard about trashwiki layout:
* like the round corners - of course!
* like the colours
* like the edgy style of the logo
* boxes on start page look cluttered, no grid visible
* too many font sizes
So I guess we should fix the main page :) 79.176.202.78 11:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Go ahead! ;) --Sigurdas 15:17, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Phew, lots of edits later. Cleaned up a lot of CSS, still needs something, but I don't know what. guaka 10:15, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Good work! Meanwhile, I started Trashwiki page on WP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trashwiki --Sigurdas 13:17, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Cool. I wonder if the makezine reference is good enough to keep it out of the hands of Wikipedia deletionists. Meanwhile you might want to keep a copy here and/or at wikiindex.org and/or at aboutus :) guaka 18:47, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
I do keep a copy at my laptop. If you know any better reference, please replace makezine one with it. Or we should do some PR to get good ones? :) --Sigurdas 15:48, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Fairy

What's the dumpster fairy? Didn't really get it. Plus, we should avoid maiking Main Page even longer. --Sigurdas 07:56, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Just some dumpster folklore (at least) in the Netherlands ;) (and here's a silly one from the US). This could possibly go elsewhere, in some sort of Fun & Folklore section we don't have yet? Narnua 17:41, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

add location link on the main page?

hey. sorry if i don't post in the right place. i just created Toulouse but i don't know how to make this city appear on this main page, in "around the world". I naively thought it was automatic... Thanks for either doing it or telling me/us how to!

I see you already found out that there is a Template:World which anyone can edit. --Sigurdas 15:14, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
yep, thanks! --Stupidfrog 15:25, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Abandoning practice of having city links on the Main Page?

Maybe we should stop having city links in the "Around the world" section, and limit this to country and states (in U.S.) links only. The reason is that right now we have to make sure not to forget to enter the city when a new article on it is written; people usually add the city link to Country page, not here - that means visitors can easily reach the city by clicking first on the country page from the Main Page. ANother thing is that by abandoning city links from the Main Page we can make this long page much shorter, without losing any valuable information. --Sigurdas 21:42, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
