Padua (Italian: Padova) is a city in Italy 40 kms from Venice, in the province of Veneto.

There is a daily food market in the central square where fruit and vegetables can be found easily. Even while it's still open (they close at 5pm) you can walk around and collect fallen fruit.

On Via Merlin in the West side of the city there is a supermarket DIX which has 5 organic waste bins, often full of delicious treats. They close at 7.45pm every day except Wednesday afternoon and Sunday. (Last checked: Sept.2009)

Most supermarkets are closed on Wednesday afternoon and all day Sunday, so Wednesdays and Saturday nights are good times to go to dumpster dive (after closing time).
