India is a very populated country in Asia. It is claimed that a lot of stuff queued for recycling in the West is being shipped to India for professional trash pickers to look through.

There is a rich Indian tradition of up-cycling, known locally as Jugaad. There are number of efforts to reclaim this dying art of improvised use of waste materials in the age and midst of modern ecological crisis sprinkled throughout India. One of the more active groups promoting waste awareness is a "Zero-Waste Center" in Udaipur, Rajasthan, called Shikshantar. There is a small community of people in that city leading a zero-waste lifestyle.
