Dumpster diving

  • Boots has an enormous turnover of sandwiches on an almost daily basis. Their dumpsters are located more or less directly behind the local Wetherspoons, The Dog & Duck. This is off Chapel Street, which is the first right off of West Street. This is simple to find as it involves simply going round the back of the Dog & Duck, where you will find two silver bins facing you, these belong to Boots. The remaining bins belong to Wetherspoons, and possibly Costa. You will usually find a very large number of sandwiches, and other fresh lunch items with a short shelf life, including pots of pasta and sushi. (Last checked: April 2011)
  • The Pasty shop on North street has its bins directly behind the shop, which can be accessed via an alleyway off Crane Street. Discarded pastries can be found in small bags. (Last checked: April 2011)
  • Iceland operates two red dumpsters around the back of the store on South Street, which can be accessed by following an alleyway beside the restaurant Trents, and turning left. They are within some kind of lockable cage, but this does not appear to ever be locked. Understandably with Iceland's small selection of fresh produce, the quantity of food within the bins is often small, and very limited. (Last checked: April 2011)
