Boston is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Massachusetts.

On September 1st it's flooded with abandoned stuff from student apartments and dorms. The neighborhoods of Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, and Allston are usually the most inundated. Go across the river to check out the Cambridge universities as well.

Haymarket is an area of Boston between the Faneuil Hall and North End neighborhoods. It is a large open air market of sorts and offers excellent fresh fruits and veggies at the end of the day. Since the city of Boston needs to clean the area after the market closes, people can pick and sort through whatever is left over at their leisure. This market is open on Fridays and Saturdays, from dawn to dusk. Show up Friday morning for the best fruits and vegetables, Saturday evening for the cheapest and fastest to spoil. One can usually talk vendors into making special deals, or giving away whole crates of food, especially on Saturday night.

The ReStore at Massachusetts College of Art + Design is located in the basement of the Kennedy building (a recent move from another campus building). It is open mwf from 1-3 and tues, thurs from 5-7pm, with additional hours depending on the semester. Everything is free and it is a great source of both practical and art supplies, tape, paint, wood, metal, electronics, clothes and more! ALL FREE ALL THE TIME!
