Beachcombing is looking for trash on beaches.
Using a metal detector, made of scrap or purchased, is useful for finding objects of value. Expect many pull tabs, bottle caps, and ancient aluminum cans to be found, and objects of value occasionally. Depending on the history of the location, you may find practical uses for things such as old railroad ties or even rusty chains.
Finding and removing sharp objects out of the sand is beneficial to beach-goers, as feet are often bare.
At times beachcombing was popular in the Netherlands.
