Auckland is a city in New Zealand. It is the largest city in the country and the largest Polynesian city in the world. In Auckland there are regular dumpster diving groups called 'Scabs'. This term is derived from the slang verb 'to scab', which is to ask for food or money, generally at school.

  • Nosh - there are at least three of these in Auckland (Ponsonby, Mt Eden, Greenlane). Usually plenty of fresh produce and bread, as well as meat if you're into that. Refuse is packed into bags by type, i.e. meat/veg/bread are all in separate bags. Easy access, but go at night you'll probably meet other divers. (Last checked: Jun.2015)
  • Faro Fresh in Grey Lynn have a bin exclusively for produce 'This is only for produce'. Nearby, there are several other dumpsters which have may have other salvageable food. (Last checked: Jun.2015)
  • Countdown Greenlane is 24 hour, and you have to jump a fence to get into their dumpsters. However, if you're willing to take the risk the dumpster is plentiful. (Last checked: Jun.2015)
