Alingsås, Sweden has several of the usual grocery stores like ICA (both ICA Supermarket and ICA Maxi), Lidl, Hemköp, Willys and ÖB, most of which uses compactors making the food unavailable. If you feel safe opening these, reaching for food, turning them off or mounting them - then please go ahead, there will be immeasurable amounts of food for you to harvest. But if you don't have the know-how and don't feel comfortable about mounting those beasts, there are safer ways to find food in Alingsås.
Lidl, Willys, Hemköp and ÖB throw trash separately, not everything is thrown in the compactor. It is not clear what system they use and what items get lost in the the compactors, but there are huge amounts of packaged and unpackaged food available to you.
The trash site is located to the left of the main entrance. Items are thrown openly in ordinary green trash bins, so no climbing is needed. There are three of them. Don't bother with the small brown ones, they never contain anything at all. The compactor is located here also, but you probably won't be able to open it from the outside. Expect a lot of lot of fruits and vegetables in the bins. They throw a lot of paper, carton and private garbage in these bins as well, simply search and you will find what you need. There is a container in the backyard where the staff parking lot is located - it is unclear what is in that container; the compactor is at the front, it might be possible to disconnect it and open it; but what you need is a container on the right short side of the building, it has padlocks but you can enter it from the top if you have a small body structure. Expect a lot of vegetables and fruit in bulk, like large boxes of potatoes, onion, tomatoes. Be careful, there is a lot of cardboard and you can easily fall. (Last checked: July 2012)
The compactor is located on the right short side of the store. It's probably openable if you have knowledge about these machines, but it's closer to a residential house where a lot of people are around, local divers experienced unneeded attention from residents, so be careful. There is a container located at the parking lot, it's the one closest to the bridge and the railroad, it has graffiti all over it. It's mountable from the top, expect lots of food in all varieties. It gets overfilled quickly which makes it impossible for one to get inside of it. (Last checked: July 2012)
To the left of the main entrance there is an enclosure, but they don't seem to close the gates, or at least they haven't yet done so. They share this area with some other companies. When you enter the enclosure you'll have three containers to your right. The first two aren't locked but only used for cardboard etc. The third will be locked but you will find a rod on it's left side, push it and it will open magically and you may then enter. Near to impossible to do it if you are alone, so take at least one more diver with you. (Last checked: July 2012)
