[edit] To do

GFDL:

[edit] Ideas

Every described place should be labeled all/vegetarian/vegan/raw (Mirto)

You mean, food markets and dumpsters and such? I think most of them will be all anyway, although yeah, sure, we can mention within an article if it is completely vegetarian, etc. --Sigurdas 07:21, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Logo/layout

I envision the current logo to be turned, and the greyish sides to be used as a background for the whole page. guaka 23:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

I wonder what was the "current" logo of Nov.5, 2008? :) If it is still the same as it is now (the image)... hm... still, difficult to visualize. ;) --Sigurdas 07:21, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] GFDL -> CC-BY-SA

As soon as Wikipedia is ready we should move to the Creative Commons ShareAlike Attribution 3.0 license. guaka 23:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

CC is great.
However, right now a whole bunch of images on trashwiki have no license at all, and it is hard to know where an image came from and what is its using conditions. When uploading, no instructions regarding licensing are given, and no notion about copyrighted material that is not welcomed here (as I would guess/suggest). Any plans to fix/deal with this? --Sigurdas 05:44, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Feel free to fix/deal with this :)
Basically, if it's good enough for Wikimedia Commons, we want it.
If it's not good enough, we want it as well ;) Basically, the only problem I can see is that someone would file a complaint with Trashwiki (or me/my company since I/it own/owns the domain and the server? side note: we'll probably set up a Dutch foundation to deal with this). But then we'll just take the picture down and it's mostly fine, apart from the people who have spread it on other places, but as long as we don't mention that it's under a free license they shouldn't have spread it in the first place. And almost anyone is completely unaware of licensing issues anyway (well, yeah, it's pretty complex).
What's the current status of this at Hitchwiki? guaka 19:19, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Spread the word

[edit] non-food-related trash?

Is it okay to create articles that do no relate to food on this wiki? For instance, I dumpster-dive computer parts and furniture... -mza

Totally! Right, Kasper? --Sigurdas 07:21, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Anything that is trash, eatable and non-eatable :D, and anything anyone finds suitable to TrashWiki. --Robino 10:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Totally! Your tips about any type of trash are very welcome, both in general (e.g. adding info on how to deal with computer parts) as well as specific location based ("the MIT dumpsters contain awesome stuff - bring donuts for the janitor" ;). guaka 18:17, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rewrites/cleanups

In general, what's the deal with all those "trivial rewrites" anyway? (from "Helsinki" edit|User:Narnua)

It beats me how crudely English language is often being used both here and on hitchwiki.org - many sentences are constructed in German, East European and similar ways of using a language, and it is painful to see some sentences where only Middle Europeans and such would make any sense out of something that is actually being written in English words. It is quite obvious the bigger this wiki gets the more in need it will be for a regular proof-reading by a native English speaker - and while there is none, as I happened to notice, I'm doing some "cleaning" jobs here and there, under some guidance of my Californian x-girlfriend, so that our fellows Americans and such won't get puzzled too much by our raw knowledge of English.--Sigurdas 07:52, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
It's a wiki, and if you think you can improve the language in whatever way (spelling, style), do it! Of course, try to limit the use of words that won't be understood by intermediary speakers of English - of course this depends on the context. On the other side, any contributions are welcome, as long as it's more or less possible to deduce meaning. guaka 18:17, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Freegans

What do you think about setting up a Category:Freegans for all registered trashwiki users (and for some images, too)? It is obviously better than being an uncategorized user, right? --Sigurdas 19:55, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Sure! I guess it's somehow independent from Category:Dumpster divers, right? guaka 23:09, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, by definition it is, although practically both have a lot in common.
Actually, trashwiki users, perhaps, can be both categorized and not, huh? They are all listed anyway, and probably not everyone is a diver or a freegan - or is one? --Sigurdas 04:30, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Good idea I would say. Maybe a nice way forward is to write a page on profile (also for hitchwiki e.g.) and explaining people how they can categorize themselves and which are the default categories. In this sense, I don't mind giving myself the categories "I am a freegan", "I am a dumpster diver", or "tech-diver", or "trash-artist" (I make art out of trash), and "I am based in Amsterdam". This page should then also be linked from the first page that you get once you are registered. --Robino 09:56, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
What about a box at the main page~right next to the gray intro to promote the user categories (and other prominent pages)? --Kardan 20:07, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
just do :) --Robino 23:06, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
of course, I forgot about that :) --Kardan 09:12, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] This project rocks!

In less than 3 months we've created a nice lil community already! I think it's time for some contemplation and deeper meaning :) guaka 19:19, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
