The year 2009 in trash:

February 25 - a Belgian dumpster diver and eco-activist nicknamed Ollie was arrested and put behind the bars for dumpster diving. He was imprisoned for 28 days (unconfirmed). His trial evoked protests in Belgium against restrictions of taking discarded food; it also received wide IndyMedia publicity in several European countries.
March 9 - "Skipping Waste", a documentary about dumpster diving by Lily Barlow, shot in France and the Netherlands.
